System Applications

Hawkeye Talon is compatible with most of today's state of the art metering technology. Hawkeye Talon simplifies complex metering technologies and brings it to your fingertips. Because it is web-based, monitoring your facility is made easy from any phone, laptop or pc with internet access. All your data is stored securely at your facility. You can compare, contrast and make changes to a single system location or even multiple system locations from wherever you are at in the world.

The key to any metering system is the output information. How was this output information collected, where is this information stored and how do we access it? That's where Hawkeye Energy Solutions comes in. Hawkeye provides solutions to actively manage your energy resources and Hawkeye Talon places metered information at your fingertips. The information is accurate, it is stored at your facility, it is easy to understand and access is only an internet browser away.

Power Metering

There is a wide variety of power ‘sub-metering’ systems available today. Applications include utility sub-metering, equipment performance monitoring, performance verification and diagnostic evaluations. The output information ranges from a simple kilowatt and kilowatt hour data to power wave capturing in the smallest fraction of a second. State of the art metering systems are placed right at the main electric service panel, process or system panels, compressed air system panels, chiller panels, tower system panels etc. Hawkeye Energy Solutions engineers have the expertise to select the right meter for the right application. Hawkeye Talon puts the metered data at your fingertips so you can easily compare it and contrast it.

Wattnode Energy Monitors

Wattnode by Continental Control Systems

Continental Control Systems designs and manufactures the WattNode AC power and energy meters. Available products include pulse-output watt-hour transducers and LonWorks® power, energy and demand meters. Applications include utility sub-metering, end-use metering, equipment performance monitoring, verification, evaluation and diagnostics. For more information, download the Wattnode Plus data sheet.

Gas Flow Metering

Natural gas, propane and other fuels are commonly sub-metered both at the main service and at individual processes. It is very important to know the physical conditions such as temperature, pressure and flow rate when selecting a gas or fuel meter. For example, for many natural gas metering applications, thermal mass, differential pressure and turbine meters are excellent choices. However, other metering technologies such as vortex shedding or coriolis are decent options in other scenarios with different conditions. (See the 'Hawkeye Meter Guide' below.) Hawkeye Energy Solutions engineers have the expertise to select the right meter for the right application. Hawkeye Talon puts the metered data at your fingertips so you can easily compare it and contrast it.

Water Flow Metering

Water Flow Metering Water and other liquid flow metering technologies are amongst the simplest and most common metering installed today. Over 65% of the flow meters in the world are used to measure some sort of liquid flow. With so many choices it is hard to know what meters best fit your application. (See the ‘Hawkeye Meter Guide’ below.) Hawkeye Energy Solutions engineers have the expertise to select the right meter for the right application. Hawkeye Talon puts the metered data at your fingertips so you can easily compare it and contrast it.

Steam Flow Metering

Steam flow rate is critical to many processes. The steam flow rate can be metered at the main or (with slightly less accuracy) at the condensate return. In many cases, steam metering has one of the shortest paybacks of all metering systems. Both process and steam heating system leaks are simply expensive. There are a wide range of flow meter technologies to accomplish steam flow metering. (See the ‘Hawkeye Meter Guide’ below.) Hawkeye Energy Solutions engineers have the expertise to select the right meter for the right application. Hawkeye Talon puts the metered data at your fingertips so you can easily compare it and contrast it.

Building Automation

Automating the control of your building HVAC & Lighting systems simply saves you money. Hawkeye Talon can set fan schedules, lighting schedules, room temperatures, set point temperatures and more. Maximize the control of your HVAC equipment and track operating histories to save energy. The Hawkeye Talon also provides data logging, archiving, system-wide database management and integration. The system can even be set up to email you when equipment breaks down. The entire system is internet-based, so all you need is an internet browser. There are significant energy savings and incentives for automating the control of lighting systems. Recent automation of lighting for a large manufacturing facility proved to have less than a 2 year payback for new automated control of production area lighting including motion sensor control. Automation of lighting allows for adjustable maximum "on" times for different groups of lighting even when motion sensors energize lighting or the lighting is manually energized. Systems can also be set up to monitor how long groups of lighting systems are "on". The system can alarm or even email the operators if certain lighting systems are switched "off" or if there is bulb failure in critical groups of lighting (such as outdoor lighting). Touch screen controls make it easy for security to energize or de-energize different areas. Energy saving is simply maximized by setting lighting schedules for holidays, weekends and/or any shut down times. Lighting will no longer be accidentally left on all weekend. For more information see the Energy Saving Ideas page under Resources.
